1. An optical disk drive, comprising:

  • an optical pickup unit configured to illuminate an optical disk to receive a reflected signal, the optical pickup unit including optical sensors for sensing the reflected signal to provide optical signals;

    an analog-to-digital converter for converting the optical signals into digitized optical signals;

    a digital signal processor configured to calculate a focus error signal (FES) from the digitized optical signals, the digital signal processor configured with a focus servo algorithm that processes FES to adjust focus in the optical disk drive; and

    a processor configured to control the digital signal processor to acquire focus and to turn focus on and off.
