1. A low cost, high speed sensing method for collecting and wirelessly transmitting spectral information of an object, such as plants, tissue, fluids and gasses for remote analysis of the condition and/or identity of the objects, said method comprising the steps of:

  • a) focusing a portable spectrometer on an object from which the spectral information is to be gathered with the use of an aiming device carried by the portable spectrometer;

    b) sensing the magnitude of a plurality of wave lengths of light received from the object for remote analysis with an image array;

    c) electronically collecting the magnitude of the plurality of wavelengths to define a spectral distribution of light received from said object;

    d) wirelessly transmitting the spectral distribution to a remote readable electronic memory to facilitate said remote analysis of the object.
