Abstract

A method, apparatus and a computer readable record media storing instructions for executing the same method for interfacing among a hybrid type synchronous or asynchronous terminal to a core network in a next generation mobile telecommunications system. The hybrid type synchronous or asynchronous radio network determines the operating type of the core network when the core network has a connection thereto, and sends the determined core network operating type information and information related to the core network to the hybrid type synchronous or asynchronous terminal, thereby allowing the synchronous or asynchronous terminal to smoothly perform a data interfacing operation with the core network.

Claims

1. A method for interfacing among a terminal, a radio network and a core network connected to the radio network, wherein the radio network has an asynchronous operating type, said method comprising the steps of:

a) providing the terminal with a message including a core network operating type information; and

b) at the terminal, recognizing the operating type of the core network on the basis of the core network operating type information contained in the message, to thereby allow the terminal to operate according to the recognized operating type of the core network.

2. The method as recited in claim 1, after said step b), further comprising the step c) of storing the recognized operating type of the core network.

3. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the step b) includes the steps of:

b-1) extracting the core network operating type information from a received message; and

b-2) setting an operating type of the terminal to one of the synchronous operating type and the asynchronous operating type on the basis of the recognized operating type of the core network.

4. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein said step a) includes the steps of:

a1) inserting the core network operating type information into a predetermined location of the message to be transmitted to the terminal; and

a2) transmitting the message to the terminal through a predetermined channel.

5. The method as recited in claim 4, wherein the predetermined channel is a broadcast control channel.

6. The method as recited in claim 4, wherein the predetermined location is a core network type information field of a synchronous channel message.

7. The method as recited in claim 4, wherein, in said step a1), the core network operating type information is periodically inserted into the predetermined location of the message to be transmitted to the terminal.

8. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the message includes a master information block.

9. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the message includes a system information message.

10. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the message is represented by:

12. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein the message further includes an information of the core network.

The method as recited in claim 12, wherein the core network operating type information is one of an ANSI-41 information representing a synchronous operating type core network and a global system for mobile communications application part (GSM-MAP) information representing an asynchronous operating type core network.

14. The method as recited in claim 12, wherein the information of the core network includes an ANSI-41 information having information elements related to the connected core network.

15. The method as recited in claim 12, wherein the information of the core network includes a global system for mobile communications application part (GSM-MAP) information having information elements related to the connected core network.

16. The method as recited in claim 12, wherein the core network operating type information represents whether the operating type of the core network is an ANSI-41 information representing a synchronous operating type core network or a global system for mobile communications application part (GSM-MAP) information representing an asynchronous operating type core network.

17. A method for interfacing among a terminal, a radio network and a core network connected to the radio network, wherein the terminal has a hybrid operating type being possible to be set as either a synchronous operating type or an asynchronous operating type and the core network is an ANSI-41 operating type, said method comprising the steps of:

a) providing the terminal with a master information block including a core network operating type information representing an operating type of the core network and an information of the core network; and

b) recognizing, at the terminal, the operating type of the core network on the basis of the core network operating type information contained in the received master information block, to thereby allow the terminal to operate according to the recognized operating type of the core network.

18. The method as recited in claim 17, after said step b), further comprising the step c) of storing the recognized operating type of the core network.

19. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein the step b) includes the steps of:

b1) extracting the core network operating type information from the received master information block; and

b2) setting an operating type of the terminal to one of the synchronous operating type and the asynchronous operating type on the basis of the recognized operating type of the core network.

20. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein said step a) includes the steps of:

a1) inserting the core network operating type information into the master information block to be transmitted to the terminal; and

a2) transmitting the master information block to the terminal through a predetermined channel.

21. The method as recited in claim 20, wherein the predetermined channel is a synchronous channel.

22. The method as recited in claim 20, wherein the predetermined channel is a broadcast control channel.

23. The method as recited in claim 20, wherein, in said step a), the core network operating type information is periodically inserted into the master information block to be transmitted to the terminal.

24. The method as recited in claim 17, wherein the message is represented by:

An apparatus for interfacing among a terminal, a radio network and a core network connected to the radio network, wherein the terminal has a hybrid operating type being possible to be set as either a synchronous operating type or an asynchronous operating type and the core network is an ANSI-41 operating type, said apparatus comprising:

messaging block for providing the terminal with a master information block including a core network operating type information representing an operating type of the core network and an information of the core network;

detection block, contained in the terminal, for recognizing the operating type of the core network on the basis of the core network operating type information contained in the received master information block; and

setting block, contained in the terminal, for setting an operating type of the terminal to one of the synchronous operating type and the asynchronous operating type on the basis of the recognized operating type of the core network.

26. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, wherein the detection block includes:

receiver block for receiving the master information block having the core network operating type information; and

extraction block for extracting the core network operating type information from the received master information block.

27. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, further comprising a storage device, contained in the terminal, for storing the recognized operating type of the core network.

28. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, wherein the messaging block includes a dip-switch for designating the operating type of the core network.

29. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, wherein the messaging block includes a memory for storing the operating type of the core network.

30. The apparatus as recited in claim 29, wherein the memory is a read only memory (ROM).

31. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, wherein the master information block is represented by:

32. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, wherein the messaging block:

inserts the core network operating type information into the master information block; and

provides the terminal with the master information block through a predetermined channel.

33. The apparatus as recited in claim 32, wherein the predetermined channel is a synchronous channel.

34. The apparatus as recited in claim 32, wherein the predetermined channel is a broadcast control channel.

35. The apparatus as recited in claim 32, wherein the core network operating type information is periodically inserted into the master information block.

36. The apparatus as recited in claim 25, wherein the radio network includes at least a base transceiver station (BTS) and a base station controller (BSC) for controlling the BTS.

37. A method for interfacing among a terminal, a radio network and a core network connected to the radio network, wherein the terminal has a hybrid operating type being possible to be set as either a synchronous operating type or an asynchronous operating type and the core network is a GSM-MAP operating type, said method comprising the steps of:

a) providing the terminal with a master information block including a core network operating type information representing an operating type of the core network and an information of the core network; and

b) recognizing, at the terminal, the operating type of the core network on the basis of the core network operating type information contained in the received master information block, to thereby allow the terminal to operate according to the recognized operating type of the core network.

38. The method as recited in claim 37, after said step b), further comprising the step c) of storing the recognized operating type of the core network.

39. The method as recited in claim 37, wherein the step b) includes the steps of:

b1) extracting the core network operating type information from the received master information block; and

b2) setting an operating type of the terminal to one of the synchronous operating type and the asynchronous operating type on the basis of the recognized operating type of the core network.

40. The method as recited in claim 37, wherein said step a) includes the steps of:

a1) inserting the core network operating type information into the master information block; and

a2) transmitting the master information block to the terminal through a predetermined channel.

41. The method as recited in claim 40, wherein the predetermined channel is a synchronous channel.

42. The method as recited in claim 40, wherein the predetermined channel is a broadcast control channel.

43. The method as recited in claim 40, wherein, in said step a1), the core network operating type information is periodically inserted into the master information block.

44. The method as recited in claim 37, wherein the message is represented by:

An apparatus for interfacing among a terminal, a radio network and a core network connected to the radio network, wherein the terminal has a hybrid operating type being possible to be set as either a synchronous operating type or a asynchronous operating type and the core, network is a GSM-MAP operating type, said apparatus comprising:

messaging block for providing the terminal with a master information block including a core network operating type information representing an operating type of the core network and an information of the core network;

detection block, contained in the terminal, for recognizing the operating type of the core network on the basis of the core network operating type information contained in the received master information block; and

setting block, contained in the terminal, for setting an operating type of the terminal to one of the synchronous operating type and the asynchronous operating type on the basis of the recognized operating type of the core network.

46. The apparatus as recited in claim 45, wherein the detection block includes:

receiver block for receiving the master information block having the core network operating type information; and

extraction block for extracting the core network operating type information from the received master information block.

47. The apparatus as recited in claim 45, further comprising a storage device, contained in the terminal, for storing the recognized operating type of the core network.

48. The apparatus as recited in claim 45, wherein the messaging block includes a dip-switch for designating the operating type of the core network.

49. The apparatus as recited in claim 45, wherein the messaging block includes a memory for storing the operating type of the core network.

50. The apparatus as recited in claim 49, wherein the memory is a read only memory (ROM).

51. The apparatus as recited in claim 45, wherein the master information block is represented by:

inserts the core network operating type information into master information block; and

provides the terminal with the master information block through a predetermined channel.

53. The apparatus as recited in claim 52, wherein the predetermined channel is a synchronous channel.

54. The apparatus as recited in claim 52, wherein the predetermined channel is a broadcast control channel.

55. The apparatus as recited in claim 52, wherein the core network operating type information is periodically inserted into the master information block.

56. The apparatus as recited in claim 45, wherein the radio network includes at least a base transceiver station (BTS) and a base station controller (BSC) for controlling the BTS.

57. A method for interfacing among a terminal, a radio network and a core network connected to the radio network, wherein the radio network has an asynchronous operating type, said method comprising the steps of:

a) providing the terminal with a message including a core network operating type information and an information of the core network; and

b) at the terminal, recognizing the operating type of the core network on the basis of the core network operating type information contained in the message, to thereby allow the terminal to operate according to the recognized operating type of the core network.

58. The method as recited in claim 57, after said step b), further comprising the step c) of storing the recognized operating type of the core network.

59. The method as recited in claim 57, wherein the step b) includes the steps of:

b-1) extracting the core network operating type information from a received message; and

b-2) setting an operating type of the terminal to one of the synchronous operating type and the asynchronous operating type on the basis of the recognized operating type of the core network.

60. The method as recited in claim 57, wherein said step a) includes the steps of:

a1) inserting the core network operating type information into a predetermined location of the message to be transmitted to the terminal; and

a2) transmitting the message to the terminal through a predetermined channel.

61. The method as recited in claim 60, wherein the predetermined channel is a broadcast control channel.
