1. An occupant side-impact protection device for a motor vehicle, the device comprising:
- at least one unfoldable protection element which, when unfolded, forms a curtain for protection of the head and chest region of the occupant; and
a tensioning strap configured so that, when the protection element is unfolded, the strap is tensioned between a first point located toward a front portion of the protection element and a second point located toward a rear portion of the protection element, the first point being a fastening point and the second point being a deflection element and the strap forms an obstacle against which an outwardly directed rear side of the unfolded protection element is supported,wherein the tensioning strap is configured to form a continuous strap without forming branching arms.

Abstract
An occupant protection device for motor vehicles, having an unfoldable protection element which, when unfolded, forms a curtain for the protection of vehicle occupants, in particular in the head/chest region. A tensioning strap is provided which, when the protection element is unfolded, is tensioned between a first vehicle point and a second vehicle point and in the process forms an obstacle against which the unfolded protection element is supported by means of its outwardly directed rear side.
