1. A lead electrode assembly having a leading edge and a trailing edge for implantation into a patient, the assembly comprising:

  • an electrode having a first face and a second face, the second face adapted for sliding insertion along the patient'"'"'s ribcage; and

    an appendage extending opposite the second face of the electrode, the appendage including an eyelet for securing an insertion device thereto, the eyelet opening in a direction generally transverse to the direction defined from the leading edge to the trailing edge.
