1. A method of controlling volume levels in a processor-based system comprising:

  • in response to a user input, automatically generating over time, after the cessation of said user input, a series of sounds of progressively changing volume on a processor-based system;

    receiving a user selection on a remote control; and

    using said user selection to control the volume of sound generated by said processor-based system by determining the volume of the sound of said series of sounds of progressively changing volume when the second user selection was received.
