1. A method of authenticating an electronic communication, the method including:

  • parsing a header of the electronic communication to obtain a header IP address of an originator of the electronic communication and to obtain a purported domain name of a purported sender of the electronic communication;

    interrogating a business entity database with the purported domain name to obtain an associated IP address associated with the purported domain name;

    comparing the header IP address and the associated IP address;

    generating an authenticity indicator for the electronic communication based on the comparison of the header IP address and the associated IP address, the authenticity indicator indicating a likelihood that the electronic communication was sent from a purported sender of the electronic communication; and

    presenting the authenticity indicator to the recipient of the electronic communication.
