1. A data logging system, comprising:

  • an implantable medical device having a constant current source connected to two electrodes adapted for internal disposition and contact with body fluids, the current source being driven by an oscillator for producing a current signal modulated with encoded data between the two electrodes to cause corresponding modulated potential signals detectable at a skin surface; and

    ,an external data logging device for affixation to a patient having incorporated therein a data communications interface for demodulating potential signals sensed at a skin surface location to extract encoded data therefrom, and circuitry for storing the encoded data in a data logging storage medium.
