1. A radio local area network (RLAN) comprising:

  • a first base station having a transceiver for conducting Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) wireless communications with user equipments (UEs);

    a first Radio Network Controller (RNC) coupled with said first base station for controlling base station communication;

    a Radio Access Network Internet Protocol (RAN IP) Gateway having a subset of a Gateway General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) Support Node (GGSN) for connection with the Internet, said RAN IP Gateway coupled with said first RNC via an Iu-PS interface using a stacked, layered protocol having a lower transport layer configured to use Internet Protocol (IP); and

    a Voice Gateway being coupled with said first RNC using stacked, layered protocol communications having a lower transport layer configured for Internet Protocol (IP).
