1. An electronic access control device powered by a battery capable of detecting a portable remote device for transmitting an electromagnet signal with an access code, the electronic access control device comprising:

  • a circuit having a first portion deactivated during a first time period, wherein the circuit draws less than 100 micro-amps from the battery during the first time period;

    a second portion of the circuit enabled during a second time period;

    a third portion of the circuit having an enable output signal generated in response to a sensed signal of a radio frequency;

    a fourth portion of the circuit being enabled for an extended time period that is greater than the second time period, wherein the circuit draws greater than 100 micro-amps from the battery during the extended time period;

    a fifth portion of the circuit comprising a first processor having an input code output obtained, at least in part, from the sensed electromagnetic signal and during the extended time period;

    a second processor temporarily enabled by the first processor prior to the second processor receiving the input code having an output signal generated if the input code matches an authorization code for authorizing operation of a latch or alarm; and

    ,a driver comprising an electronic circuit and having an output generated in response to the output signal generated by the second processor.
