1. A mobile device having a processing subsystem, a display subsystem, an input/output subsystem, and a memory subsystem, the memory subsystem storing an operating system executed by the processing subsystem so that the display subsystem displays a graphical user interface for controlling the operation of the mobile device, wherein the graphical user interface provides graphical elements for providing visual indicia of mobile device operations, the mobile device comprising:

  • a manual input navigation device operable to be manually actuated by a user and to generate an input navigation signal for altering the relative position of a graphical element in the graphical user interface in response to such manual actuation;

    a sensor device operable to generate a current tilt signal that provides indicia of the current tilt angle of the mobile device; and

    a processing device in electrical communication with the manual input navigation device and the sensor device and operable to;

    store the current tilt signal as a reference tilt signal upon the generation of the input navigation signal;

    generate a delta tilt signal by measuring the difference between the current tilt signal and the reference tilt signal; and

    generate a sensor navigation signal for altering the relative position of the graphical element in the graphical user interface based on the value of the delta tilt signal;

    wherein the processing device is further operable to;

    compare the delta tilt signal to a plurality of threshold values; and

    adjust the value of the sensor navigation signal based on the threshold values exceeded by the delta tilt signal so that the rate of altering of the relative position of the graphical element is proportional to the threshold values exceeded by the delta tilt signal.
