1. A method of using a wireless mobile phone device to signal user intention to a remote system, the method including the acts:

  • a user moving the wireless mobile phone device from a first position to a second position, such movement effecting a user-controlled gesture; and

    sending information related to the movement from the wireless mobile phone device to the remote system;

    wherein the wireless mobile phone device includes a 2D optical sensor, and the method includes generating said information related to the movement by tracking movement of a feature across a field of view of said sensor, and inferring movement therefrom; and

    wherein gesturing with the wireless mobile phone device offers an alternative to operating physical keys, in signaling user intention from said wireless mobile phone device to said remote system.
