1. A patient support, comprising:
- a cover including an interior region defined by a top portion and a bottom portion spaced from the top portion,a base positioned between the top portion and the bottom portion of the cover, the base having a head end, a foot end, a longitudinal length extending from the head end to the foot end, and a width extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal length,a plurality of inflatable bladders located between the base and the top portion of the cover, including at least a first can-shaped bladder and a second can-shaped bladder positioned adjacent to one another transversely across the width of the base, and a separable layer including at least one sensor configured to measure pressure applied to one or more of the can-shaped bladders, the at least one sensor being located externally to the base and the at least one sensor being located externally to the bladders and the at least one sensor being located within the interior region of the cover.

Abstract
This disclosure describes certain exemplary embodiments of a patient support having a plurality of vertically-oriented or substantially can-shaped inflatable bladders. In one embodiment, the patient support includes a plurality of pressure sensors positioned underneath the bladders. In another embodiment, the patient support includes a support layer positioned above the vertical bladders. In still another embodiment, the patient support includes one or more filler portions that are selectable so that the patient support may conform to bed frames having different deck configurations.

a cover including an interior region defined by a top portion and a bottom portion spaced from the top portion, a base positioned between the top portion and the bottom portion of the cover, the base having a head end, a foot end, a longitudinal length extending from the head end to the foot end, and a width extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal length, a plurality of inflatable bladders located between the base and the top portion of the cover, including at least a first can-shaped bladder and a second can-shaped bladder positioned adjacent to one another transversely across the width of the base, and a separable layer including at least one sensor configured to measure pressure applied to one or more of the can-shaped bladders, the at least one sensor being located externally to the base and the at least one sensor being located externally to the bladders and the at least one sensor being located within the interior region of the cover. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13)
