Abstract

In the data structure, a data area of the recording medium stores a transport stream of at least video data. The transport stream is divided into transport packets. Each of the transport packets is associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths, and the transport packets of each reproduction path are interleaved with one another. In the date structure, a navigation area stores at least one navigation data item. The navigation data item provides navigation information for reproducing more than one of the multiple reproduction paths. The navigation area also stores a separate map associated with each reproduction path, and each map provides position data for the video data of the associated reproduction path.

Claims

1. An optical disc storing an executable data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data having multiple reproduction paths by a reproducing device, comprising:

a data area storing a transport stream of at least video data, the transport stream being divided into groups of transport packets, each group of transport packets associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths; and

a navigation area storing a first navigation unit and maps, each of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths and providing presentation time information and an address in the video data for reproducing one of the groups of transport packets associated with the corresponding reproduction path, wherein the first navigation unit includes at least one second navigation unit and controls a reproduction order of the second navigation units, the second navigation unit including an indicator indicating at least one of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths for reproducing the group of transport packets, the second navigation unit including an identifier for identifying the one reproduction path of the multiple reproduction paths, and wherein the second navigation unit includes path information indicating a number of the multiple reproduction paths associated with the second navigation unit.

2. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the second navigation unit includes a multiple reproduction path indicator indicating that the second navigation unit is associated with the multiple reproduction paths.

3. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the second navigation unit includes a number of reproduction path indicator indicating a number of the multiple reproduction paths.

8. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the transport packets of each reproduction path are interleaved with one another.

16. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein the transport stream includes a multi-stream, each of the groups of transport packets being associated with a separate stream of the multi-stream.

17. The optical disc of claim 1, wherein each map belongs to a third navigation unit, and wherein the navigation information identifies the third navigation unit including the map.

4. A method of recording a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data having multiple reproduction paths, the method comprising:

recording a transport stream of at least video data on an optical disc, the transport stream being divided into groups of transport packets, each group of transport packets associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths; and

recording a first navigation unit and maps, each of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths and providing presentation time information and an address in the video data for reproducing one of the groups of transport packets associated with the corresponding reproduction path, wherein the first navigation unit includes at least one second navigation unit and controls a reproduction order of the second navigation units, the second navigation unit including an indicator indicating at least one of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths for reproducing the group of transport packets, the second navigation unit including an identifier for identifying one reproduction path of the multiple reproduction paths, and wherein the second navigation unit includes path information indicating a number of the multiple reproduction paths associated with the second navigation unit.

9. The method of claim 4, wherein the second navigation unit includes a multiple reproduction path indicator indicating that the second navigation unit is associated with the multiple reproduction paths.

18. The method of claim 4, wherein the transport stream includes a multi-stream, each of the groups of transport packets being associated with a separate stream of the multi-stream.

19. The method of claim 4, wherein each map belongs to a third navigation unit, and wherein the navigation information identifies the third navigation unit including the map.

5. A method of reproducing a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data having multiple reproduction paths, the method comprising:

reproducing a first navigation unit and at least one map each of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths and providing presentation time information and an address in the video data for reproducing a group of transport packets associated with the corresponding reproduction path, wherein the first navigation unit includes at least one second navigation unit and controls a reproduction order of the second navigation units, the second navigation unit including an indicator indicating at least one of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths for reproducing the group of transport packets, the second navigation unit including an identifier for identifying one reproduction path of the multiple reproduction paths, and wherein the second navigation unit includes path information indicating a number of the multiple reproduction paths associated with the second navigation unit; and

reproducing a transport stream of at least video data on an optical disc based on the reproduced first navigation unit and at least one of the maps, the transport stream being divided into groups of transport packets, each group of transport packets associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths.

10. The method of claim 5, wherein the second navigation unit includes a multiple reproduction path indicator indicating that the second navigation unit is associated with the multiple reproduction paths.

13. The method of claim 5, wherein the transport packets of each reproduction path are interleaved with one another, the reproducing step includes reproducing transport packets of a first reproduction path by skipping reproduction of transport packets of a second reproduction path, wherein the first reproduction path and the second reproduction path are different from each other.

20. The method of claim 5, wherein the transport stream includes a multi-stream, each of the groups of transport packets being associated with a separate stream of the multi-stream.

21. The method of claim 5, wherein each map belongs to a third navigation unit, and wherein the navigation information identifies the third navigation unit including the map.

6. An apparatus for recording a data structure for managing reproduction at least video data having multiple reproduction paths, comprising:

a recording unit configured to record data on an optical disc;

a controller operably coupled to the recording unit, the controller configured to control the recording unit to record a transport stream of at least video data on the optical disc, the transport stream being divided into groups of transport packets, each group of transport packets associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths, the controller configured to control the recording unit to record a first navigation unit and maps, each of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths and providing presentation time information and an address in the video data for reproducing one of the groups of transport packets associated with the corresponding reproduction path, wherein the first navigation unit includes at least one second navigation unit and controls a reproduction order of the second navigation units, the second navigation unit including an indicator indicating at least one of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths for reproducing the group of transport packets, the second navigation unit including an identifier for identifying the one reproduction path of the multiple reproduction paths, and wherein the second navigation unit includes path information indicating a number of the multiple reproduction paths associated with the second navigation unit.

11. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the second navigation unit includes a multiple reproduction path indicator indicating that the second navigation unit is associated with the multiple reproduction paths.

14. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the recording unit includes a pickup to record the data on the optical disc, and wherein the controller is configured to control the optical pickup to record transport packets of each reproduction path to be interleaved with one another on the optical disc.

22. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the transport stream includes a multi-stream, each of the groups of transport packets being associated with a separate stream of the multi-stream.

23. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein each map belongs to a third navigation unit, and wherein the navigation information identifies the third navigation unit including the map.

7. An apparatus for reproducing a data structure for managing reproduction of at least video data having multiple reproduction paths, comprising:

a reproducing unit configured to reproduce data recorded on an optical disc; and

a controller operably coupled to the reproducing unit, the controller configured to control the reproducing unit to reproduce a first navigation unit and at least one map, each of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths and providing presentation time information and an address in the video data for reproducing a group of transport packets associated with the corresponding reproduction path, wherein the first navigation unit includes at least one second navigation unit and controls a reproduction order of the second navigation unit, the second navigation unit including an indicator indicating at least one of the maps associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths and for reproducing the group of transport packets, the second navigation units including an identifier for identifying one reproduction path of the multiple reproduction paths, and wherein the second navigation unit includes path information indicating a number of the multiple reproduction paths associated with the second navigation unit, the controller configured to control the reproducing unit to reproduce a transport stream of at least video data on the optical disc based on the reproduced first navigation unit and at least one of the maps, the transport stream being divided into groups of transport packets, each group of transport packets associated with one of the multiple reproduction paths.

12. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the second navigation unit includes a multiple reproduction path indicator indicating that the second navigation unit is associated with the multiple reproduction paths.

15. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the reproducing unit includes a pickup to reproduce the data from the optical disc, and wherein the transport packets of each reproduction path are interleaved with one another, and wherein the controller is configured to control the optical pickup to reproduce transport packets of a first reproduction path by skipping reproduction of transport packets of a second reproduction path, and wherein the first reproduction path and the second reproduction path are different from each other.

24. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the transport stream includes a multi-stream, each of the groups of transport packets being associated with a separate stream of the multi-stream.

25. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein each map belongs to a third navigation unit, and wherein the navigation information identifies the third navigation unit including the map.
