1. A medical fluid injector comprising:

  • a mount that accepts a syringe, wherein the mount comprises a magnet;

    a plunger drive for moving a plunger of the syringe forward and rearward inside the syringe;

    an electronic control circuit controlling the plunger drive; and

    a hall effect sensor located adjacent the mount and connected to the control circuit, wherein the hall effect sensor is positioned to detect magnetic field from the magnet to identify the mount and is configured to deliver a first signal to the control circuit indicative of a magnetic field, and the control circuit is configured to respond to the first signal by altering an operating function of the injector.
