1. A device, comprising:

  • an analog to digital converter (ADC) receiving a radio frequency (RF) signal that has not been downconverted for demodulation and outputting a digitized signal representative thereof; and

a digital processor electrically connected to the ADC and receiving the digitized representative, the digital processor being programmed with software to generate a signal representative of a downconverted and demodulated version of the RF signal; and

a mixer generating an intermediate frequency (IF) signal based on the RF signal, and a demodulator decoding useful information from the IF signal, wherein at least the mixer and demodulator are embodied in the digital processor.
