1. A data center system for housing and cooling rack-mounted electronic heat-producing equipment, the system comprising:

  • a cabinet configured to house the rack-mounted electronic heat-producing equipment and configured to provide a first chamber and a second chamber within the cabinet, the first chamber being configured to house the electronic equipment in an equipment rack, the first and second chambers being in fluid communication with each other and displaced horizontally with respect to each other; and

cooling means and circulating means disposed in the second chamber for drawing in heated gas primarily horizontally from the first chamber to the second chamber, cooling the drawn-in gas while the gas travels primarily horizontally to produce cooled gas, and impelling the cooled gas from the second chamber primarily horizontally into the first chamber to circulate the gas primarily horizontally throughout the second chamber, the circulating means comprises a plurality of fans displaced vertically, and positioned such that one vertical line passes through the plurality of fans, the plurality of fans being displaced horizontally from the first chamber, and wherein the cooling means comprises a vertical heat exchanger horizontally displace from and extending along a portion of the plurality of fans.
