1. A flight control system for controlling an aircraft in flight, the flight control system comprising:

  • an actuated control stick comprising a primary sensor, a backup sensor, and a processing unit, the processing unit comprising at least one processor configured to generate a tactile signal for the actuated control stick, the processing unit being configured to adjust the feel of the actuated control stick based upon the tactile signal, the tactile signal generated from at least one of a primary control stick signal generated by the primary sensor or a backup control stick signal generated by the backup sensor;

    the processing unit further comprising a set of primary electronics coupled to the primary sensor, the set of primary electronics being configured to receive the primary control stick signal from the primary sensor;

    a primary processor coupled to the set of primary electronics and located external to the processing unit, the primary processor being configured to generate at least one primary control signal based, at least in part, on the primary control stick signal;

    the processing unit further comprising a set of backup electronics coupled to the backup sensor, the set of backup electronics being configured to receive the backup control stick signal from the backup sensor and to generate at least one backup control signal based, at least in part, on the backup control stick signal, the backup control signal being generated independently of the primary control stick signal; and

    a plurality of aircraft actuators separate from the actuated control stick, each of the aircraft actuators being coupled to the primary processor and being coupled to the set of backup electronics, each of the aircraft actuators being configured to receive at least one of the at least one primary control signal from the primary processor and at least one of the at least one backup control signal from the set of backup electronics and being further configured to control an aircraft based, at least in part, on at least one of the received primary control signal or the received backup control signal.
