wherein the electrical contact of the electronics data port is configured for signal communication with the electrode of the analyte sensor during the first operational mode; and

transcutaneously positioning an analyte sensor in fluid contact with an interstitial fluid under a skin layer, the analyte sensor including an electrode; and providing electronics including a data port with an electrical contact; configuring the electronics to operate in one or more of a first operational mode during a first time period or a second operational mode during a second time period; operatively coupling the analyte sensor to the electrical contact of the electronics data port during the first time period when the electronics is configured to operate in the first operational mode; and configuring the electronics data port for uni-directional data communication during the second time period when the electronics is configured to operate in the second operational mode. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22)
