1. A computer assisted method for evaluating inventory, comprising:

  • receiving case composition information and case cost information for a cut down case at a store where the case composition information identifies a plurality of items of varying types, where a single component of the case is capable of being divided to create the plurality of items of varying types, and the case cost information identifies cost of the case;

    calculating an item cost for each of the items using the case composition information and case cost information, the calculating performed by a computer systemstoring the item cost for each of the items in memory of the computer system;

    receiving consumer code information for a given item of the plurality of items, the consumer code also used to identify the given item during sale of the given item;

    retrieving the item cost of the given item of the plurality of items; and

    generating inventory cost data using the item cost, the generating performed by the computer system.
