a telephone apparatus;
a headset amplifier coupled between the headset and the telephone apparatus, the headset amplifier comprising;
a switch for electrically connecting the headset and the telephone apparatus, wherein the switch is adapted to open or close responsive to a headset amplifier power supply status; and
an amplifier circuit, wherein the telephone apparatus detects when the headset amplifier is in a powered status or powerless status.

The headset amplifier includes a switch for electrically connecting the headset and a telephone apparatus. The switch is closed when the headset amplifier is in a powered status and the switch is open when the headset amplifier is in a powerless status.
