1. A radioterminal comprising:

  • a transceiver that is configured to communicate with at least one base station using frequencies of a satellite band and using a vocoder that is substantially the same as and/or is based upon a vocoder that is used by a terrestrial wireless system that communicates with radioterminals using frequencies that are substantially different from the frequencies of the satellite band; and

a controller that is configured to regulate communications between the radioterminal and the at least one base station in response to a level of interference potential that the communications between the radioterminal and the at least one base station causes to a satellite system, and configured to select a vocoder from a plurality of different vocoders responsive to the level of interference potential, wherein the level of interference potential that the communications between the radioterminal and the at least one base station causes to the satellite system is based upon at least one measurement of a transmitted and/or received power level that is associated with a device that is communicating with at least one base station using at least some frequencies that are not frequencies of the satellite band.
