1. A method for communicating information to a plurality of mobile units, wherein for each of the mobile units, wireless signal measurements are obtained from transmissions between the mobile unit and a plurality of terrestrial communication stations, and wherein each of the mobile units is independently moveable from each of the communication stations, and each of said communications stations includes one or more of:

  • a transmitter for transmitting wireless signals to the mobile units, and a receiver for receiving wireless signals from the mobile units, comprising;

    receiving, for a first of the mobile units, a first input for determining first preference information, the first preference information for determining, for one or more of a plurality of products or services, corresponding presentation data for providing one or more corresponding presentations to the first mobile unit;

    first obtaining a first estimate indicative of a location of the first mobile unit, wherein one of the location techniques (A-1) through (A-5) following is used for locating the first mobile unit;

    (A-1) a first technique for locating the first mobile unit by recognizing a pattern of wireless signal transmission characteristics, wherein said pattern of characteristics is indicative of a plurality of wireless signal transmission paths between the first mobile unit and each of one or more of the communication stations,(A-2) a second technique for locating the first mobile unit, wherein at least one of the following steps (A-2-1) through (A-2-3) are performed;

    (A-2-1) determining a time difference of arrival (TDOA) from timing information of signals transmitted between the first mobile unit and the communication stations,(A-2-2) determining a timing advance (TA) location estimate for the first mobile unit using wireless signals communicated between the first mobile unit and at least one of the communication stations, and(A-2-3) determining a location of the first mobile unit using the TDOA, and the TA location estimate,(A-3) a third technique for locating the first mobile unit, wherein a first measurement for a time of travel of a signal transmitted by a wireless transmitter not supported on the earth'"'"'s surface is received by the first mobile unit, wherein the first measurement is used for determining the location of the first mobile unit,(A-4) a fourth technique for locating the first mobile unit by using a value indicative of a signal strength of one or more signals communicated between the first mobile unit and the communication stations, and(A-5) a fifth technique for locating the first mobile unit by using a joint probability from location related information obtained from each of two different location providing information sources;

    identifying, using the first preference information and the first estimate, an instance (I1,1) of at least one of the plurality of products or services according to both;

    (a) one or more characteristics of the instance (I1,1 ) identified by the first preference information, and(b) a result from a first condition dependent upon both of (b-i) and (b-ii) following;

    (b-i) location data identifying a corresponding geographic location (L1) for accessing the instance I1,1, and(b-ii) the first estimate, or a location along an expected route of the first mobile unit determined using the first estimate;

    obtaining a route (R) to substantially the geographic location L1;

    wherein the route R is determined using a geographic location (L2) providing access to an additional instance (I1,2) of one of the plurality of the products or services, wherein the additional instance I1,2 is determined according to one or more characteristics of the one product or service identified by the first preference information, and the geographic location L2; and

    outputting, for the first mobile unit, a first of the presentation data (P1,1) notifying the user of information for accessing the instance I1,1, additional presentation data (P1,2) providing additional information for the instance I1,1, and the route R.
