1. A method for reducing blood pressure of a patient, said method comprising:
- selecting a patient suffering from hypertension and having functioning baroreceptors on both a high-pressure side and on a low-pressure side of a vasculature of the patient;
chronically implanting a baroreflex activation device within a lumen of a blood vessel proximate a baroreceptor on a low-pressure side of the patient'"'"'s vasculature; and
causing the baroreceptor to be electrically activated with the baroreflex activation device to achieve a long-term reduction in blood pressure of the patient.

Abstract
Devices, systems and methods are described which control blood pressure, nervous system activity, and neurohormonal activity by activating baroreceptors. By selectively and controllably activating baroreceptors, the present invention reduces excessive blood pressure, sympathetic nervous system activity and neurohormonal activity, thereby minimizing their deleterious effects on the heart, vasculature and other organs and tissues. A baroreceptor activation device is positioned near a low-pressure baroreceptor, preferably in the venous system, heart, or pulmonary vasculature.

9. A method, comprising:
-
providing a baroreflex activation device; and providing instructions, including; selecting a patient suffering from hypertension and having functioning baroreceptors on both a high-pressure side and on a low-pressure side of a vasculature of the patient; chronically implanting the baroreflex activation device within a lumen of a blood vessel proximate a baroreceptor on a low-pressure side of the patient'"'"'s vasculature; and electrically activating the baroreceptor with the baroreflex activation device to achieve a long-term reduction in blood pressure of the patient.
