1. A method for reducing blood pressure of a patient, said method comprising:

  • selecting a patient suffering from hypertension and having functioning baroreceptors on both a high-pressure side and on a low-pressure side of a vasculature of the patient;

    chronically implanting a baroreflex activation device within a lumen of a blood vessel proximate a baroreceptor on a low-pressure side of the patient'"'"'s vasculature; and

    causing the baroreceptor to be electrically activated with the baroreflex activation device to achieve a long-term reduction in blood pressure of the patient.
