A field effect mode electro-optical device comprising a liquid crystal layer defining a black matrix disposed between a pair of transparent substrates and at least one light polarizer layer, wherein one or more substrates comprise a plurality of photospacers disposed in a quasi-random arrangement thereon configured to reduce a correlation function for transmitted light occurring between the plurality of photospacers and the black matrix.
