Abstract

In an addressing scheme for wireless communication a communication channel may be defined based on a unique identifier associated with a destination node or a source node. In addition, a short identifier may be included in messages sent over the communication channel such that a node may uniquely identify the source node or destination node for the message. A node may use a short identifier as an index into a lookup table to determine one or more parameters to be used for communicating with another node.

Claims

1. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

receiving a message at a first node, wherein the message comprises a first address of a second node that is associated with a second address of the second node;

determining a channel at the first node based on the first address of the second node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the second node; and

responding to the message via the determined channel.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

defining the first address at the first node;

recording the association between the first address and the second address at the first node; and

sending the first address to the second node prior to the reception of the message.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first address is shorter than the second address.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein:

the first address comprises a source identifier; and

the second address comprises a device address associated with the second node.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the determination of the channel comprises:

determining the second address based on the first address; and

deriving the at least one parameter of the channel from the determined second address.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the at least one parameter is stored in a data memory at the first node; and

the determination of the channel comprises using the first address as an index to the at least one parameter in the data memory.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the derivation of the at least one parameter comprises using the second address as a seed to generate at least one pseudorandom number upon which the at least one parameter is based.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one of:

a channel acquisition code, a time hopping sequence, a frequency hopping sequence, or a pulse repetition frequency.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, based on the first address, at least one of:

a cryptographic key for cryptographic processing of information received from the second node, a quality of service policy associated with communication with the second node, or duty cycle information associated with communication with the second node.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising verifying information received from the second node based on the second address.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the verification comprises a cyclic redundancy check operation or a message integrity check operation that is based on the second address.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the first address expires in conjunction with termination of a connection with the second node.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the first node receives the message via another channel;

the response to the message comprises a first address of the first node that is associated with a second address of the first node; and

at least one parameter of the another channel is derived from the second address of the first node.

14. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a message, wherein the message comprises a first address of a node that is associated with a second address of the node;

a channel determiner configured to determine a channel based on the first address of the node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the node; and

a transmitter configured to respond to the message via the determined channel.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, further comprising an addressing controller configured to define the first address and record the association between the first address and the second address, wherein the transmitter is further configured to send the first address to the node prior to the reception of the message.

16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the first address is shorter than the second address.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein:

the first address comprises a source identifier; and

the second address comprises a device address associated with the node.

18. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the determination of the channel comprises:

determining the second address based on the first address; and

deriving the at least one parameter of the channel from the determined second address.

19. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein:

the at least one parameter is stored in a data memory; and

the determination of the channel comprises using the first address as an index to the at least one parameter in the data memory.

20. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the derivation of the at least one parameter comprises using the second address as a seed to generate at least one pseudorandom number upon which the at least one parameter is based.

21. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one of:

a channel acquisition code, a time hopping sequence, a frequency hopping sequence, or a pulse repetition frequency.

22. The apparatus of claim 14, further comprising a data processor configured to determine, based on the first address, at least one of:

a cryptographic key for cryptographic processing of information received from the node, a quality of service policy associated with communication with the node, or duty cycle information associated with communication with the node.

23. The apparatus of claim 14, further comprising a verifier configured to verify information received from the node based on the second address.

24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the verification comprises a cyclic redundancy check operation or a message integrity check operation that is based on the second address.

25. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the first address expires in conjunction with termination of a connection with the node.

26. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein:

the receiver is further configured to receive the message via another channel;

the response to the message comprises a first address of the apparatus that is associated with a second address of the apparatus; and

at least one parameter of the another channel is derived from the second address of the apparatus.

27. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for receiving a message, wherein the message comprises a first address of a node that is associated with a second address of the node;

means for determining a channel based on the first address of the node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the node; and

means for responding to the message via the determined channel.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising means for defining the first address and recording the association between the first address and the second address, wherein the means for responding is configured to send the first address to the node prior to the reception of the message.

29. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the first address is shorter than the second address.

30. The apparatus of claim 29, wherein:

the first address comprises a source identifier; and

the second address comprises a device address associated with the node.

31. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the determination of the channel comprises:

determining the second address based on the first address; and

deriving the at least one parameter of the channel from the determined second address.

32. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein:

the at least one parameter is stored in a data memory; and

the determination of the channel comprises using the first address as an index to the at least one parameter in the data memory.

33. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the derivation of the at least one parameter comprises using the second address as a seed to generate at least one pseudorandom number upon which the at least one parameter is based.

34. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one of:

a channel acquisition code, a time hopping sequence, a frequency hopping sequence, or a pulse repetition frequency.

35. The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising means for determining, based on the first address, at least one of:

a cryptographic key for cryptographic processing of information received from the node, a quality of service policy associated with communication with the node, or duty cycle information associated with communication with the node.

36. The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising means for verifying information received from the node based on the second address.

37. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein the verification comprises a cyclic redundancy check operation or a message integrity check operation that is based on the second address.

38. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the first address expires in conjunction with termination of a connection with the node.

39. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein:

the means for receiving is configured to receive the message via another channel;

the response to the message comprises a first address of the apparatus that is associated with a second address of the apparatus; and

at least one parameter of the another channel is derived from the second address of the apparatus.

40. A computer-program product for wireless communication, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with codes executable to;

receive a message at a first node, wherein the message comprises a first address of a second node that is associated with a second address of the second node;

determine a channel at the first node based on the first address of the second node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the second node; and

respond to the message via the determined channel.

41. A headset, comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a message, wherein the message comprises a first address of a node that is associated with a second address of the node;

a channel determiner configured to determine a channel based on the first address of the node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the node;

a transmitter configured to respond to the message via the determined channel; and

a transducer configured to provide an audio output based on the message.

42. A watch, comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a message, wherein the message comprises a first address of a node that is associated with a second address of the node;

a channel determiner configured to determine a channel based on the first address of the node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the node;

a transmitter configured to respond to the message via the determined channel; and

a user interface configured to provide an indication based on based on the message.

43. A sensing device, comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a message, wherein the message comprises a first address of a node that is associated with a second address of the node;

a channel determiner configured to determine a channel based on the first address of the node, wherein at least one parameter of the channel is derived from the second address of the node;

a transmitter configured to respond to the message via the determined channel; and

a sensor configured to provide data to be transmitted in conjunction with the responding to the message.

44. A method of wireless communication, comprising:

transmitting, by a first node, a message comprising a first address of the first node, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the first node; and

receiving a response to the message from a second node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address.

45. The method of claim 44, wherein the first address is defined at the second node, the method further comprising receiving the first address from the second node prior to the transmission of the message.

46. The method of claim 44, wherein the first address is shorter than the second address.

47. The method of claim 46, wherein:

the first address comprises a source identifier; and

the second address comprises a device address associated with the first node.

48. The method of claim 44, wherein the derivation of the at least one parameter comprises using the second address as a seed to generate at least one pseudorandom number upon which the at least one parameter is based.

49. The method of claim 44, wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one of:

a channel acquisition code, a time hopping sequence, a frequency hopping sequence, or a pulse repetition frequency.

50. The method of claim 44, further comprising determining, based on the second address, at least one of:

a cryptographic key for cryptographic processing of information transmitted to the second node, a quality of service policy associated with communication with the second node, or duty cycle information associated with communication with the second node.

51. The method of claim 44, further comprising performing a verification operation, based on the second address, on information to be sent to the second node.

52. The method of claim 51, wherein the verification operation comprises a cyclic redundancy check operation or a message integrity check operation.

53. The method of claim 44, wherein the first address expires in conjunction with termination of a connection with the second node.

54. The method of claim 44, wherein:

the first node transmits the message via another channel;

the response comprises a first address of the second node that is associated with a second address of the second node; and

at least one parameter of the another channel is derived from the second address of the second node.

55. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a message comprising a first address of the apparatus, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the apparatus; and

a receiver configured to receive a response to the message from a node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address.

56. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein:

the first address is defined at the node; and

the receiver is further configured to receive the first address from the node prior to the transmission of the message.

57. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the first address is shorter than the second address.

58. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein:

the first address comprises a source identifier; and

the second address comprises a device address associated with the apparatus.

59. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the derivation of the at least one parameter comprises using the second address as a seed to generate at least one pseudorandom number upon which the at least one parameter is based.

60. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one of:

a channel acquisition code, a time hopping sequence, a frequency hopping sequence, or a pulse repetition frequency.

61. The apparatus of claim 55, further comprising a data processor configured to determine, based on the second address, at least one of:

a cryptographic key for cryptographic processing of information transmitted to the node, a quality of service policy associated with communication with the node, or duty cycle information associated with communication with the node.

62. The apparatus of claim 55, further comprising a verifier configured to perform a verification operation, based on the second address, on information to be sent to the node.

63. The apparatus of claim 62, wherein the verification operation comprises a cyclic redundancy check operation or a message integrity check operation.

64. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein the first address expires in conjunction with termination of a connection with the node.

65. The apparatus of claim 55, wherein:

the transmitter is further configured to transmit the message via another channel;

the response comprises a first address of the node that is associated with a second address of the node; and

at least one parameter of the another channel is derived from the second address of the node.

66. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

means for transmitting a message comprising a first address of the apparatus, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the apparatus; and

means for receiving a response to the message from a node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address.

67. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein:

the first address is defined at the node; and

the means for receiving is configured to receive the first address from the node prior to the transmission of the message.

68. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein the first address is shorter than the second address.

69. The apparatus of claim 68, wherein:

the first address comprises a source identifier; and

the second address comprises a device address associated with the apparatus.

70. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein the derivation of the at least one parameter comprises using the second address as a seed to generate at least one pseudorandom number upon which the at least one parameter is based.

71. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein the at least one parameter comprises at least one of:

a channel acquisition code, a time hopping sequence, a frequency hopping sequence, or a pulse repetition frequency.

72. The apparatus of claim 66, further comprising means for determining, based on the second address, at least one of:

a cryptographic key for cryptographic processing of information transmitted to the node, a quality of service policy associated with communication with the node, or duty cycle information associated with communication with the node.

73. The apparatus of claim 66, further comprising means for performing a verification operation, based on the second address, on information to be sent to the node.

74. The apparatus of claim 73, wherein the verification operation comprises a cyclic redundancy check operation or a message integrity check operation.

75. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein the first address expires in conjunction with termination of a connection with the node.

76. The apparatus of claim 66, wherein:

the means for transmitting is configured to transmit the message via another channel;

the response comprises a first address of the node that is associated with a second address of the node; and

at least one parameter of the another channel is derived from the second address of the node.

77. A computer-program product for wireless communication, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with codes executable to;

transmit, at a first node, a message comprising a first address of the first node, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the first node; and

receive a response to the message from a second node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address.

78. A headset, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a message comprising a first address of the headset, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the headset;

a receiver configured to receive a response to the message from a node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address; and

a transducer configured to provide an audio output based on the response.

79. A watch, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a message comprising a first address of the watch, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the watch;

a receiver configured to receive a response to the message from a node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address; and

a user interface configured to provide an indication based on the response.

80. A sensing device, comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit a message comprising a first address of the sensing device, wherein the first address is associated with a second address of the sensing device;

a receiver configured to receive a response to the message from a node via a channel, wherein the reception of the response via the channel involves the use of at least one channel parameter that is derived from the second address; and

a sensor configured to provide data to be transmitted via the message.
