1. A laser marking system for marking a material, comprising:

  • a laser configured to emit a laser beam toward the material;

    a sensing system configured to detect, on-the-fly, a movement of the material through the sensing system and responsively provide a speed signal, representing a speed of the material through the sensing system, and a distance signal, representing that a predetermined length of the material has passed through the sensing system since the laser emitted a laser beam toward the material; and

    a controller coupled to the laser and the sensing system, the controller being responsive to the distance signal to initiate the laser marking of the material at a predetermined marking interval and being responsive to the speed signal to direct the laser to correlate emission of the laser beam with the speed of the material.
