a protective sheet extending over and covering the second display element.

Presentation by a display is enhanced by placing the active elements of the display at or substantially proximate to the surface of an electronic device. Such placement improves image quality, reduces shadow on the display, improves spill resistance, and minimizes the overall profile of the device.

19. A method of assembling a device with a display, the method comprising:

placing a substrate comprising a first display element with an active area on a work surface or fixture; placing a second display element atop the first display element, the second display element extending beyond the active area of the first display element; placing a protective sheet atop the second display element, the protective sheet and the second display element being coincident with one another and forming a stack having a perimeter; and attaching one or more flexible circuits to the first display element and applying an edge seal around the perimeter of the stack. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21, 22)
