1. A method comprising:

  • creating a mission plan that dictates one or more desired parameters of a powered system as a function of at least one of distance or time during a trip of the powered system, the desired parameters including one or more settings of the powered system that control movement of the powered system during the trip, the powered system controlled during the trip such that actual parameters that are used to control movement of the powered system are based on the desired parameters of the mission plan;

    identifying, with a processor, at least one of the desired parameters in the mission plan that is at least one of unobtainable by the powered system or in excess of a predefined limit associated with the powered system; and

    controlling the powered system such that one or more of the actual parameters of the powered system temporarily exceed the predefined limit during the trip when the at least one of the desired parameters is at least one of unobtainable by the powered system or in excess of the predefined limit.
