1. A rotor for use in a fluid filled housing of an electric machine, the rotor comprising:

  • an elongate cylindrical rotor core;

    a plurality of permanent magnets arranged around a circumference of the rotor core; and

    a covering around the permanent magnets adapted to seal the permanent magnets against contact with the fluid in the housing, the covering comprises;

    first and second end plates at opposing ends of the rotor core, a perimeter surface of the end plates being sealed with a sleeve;

    the sleeve comprising a fiber and polymer composite formed around a fiber and polymer composite hoop carried on each end plate; and

    on each end plate, a seal sealed to the composite hoop carried on the end plate.
