1. A method of recognizing speech for searching a database, where a user enters a search request as a speech input, comprising the following steps:
- processing the speech input in a speech recognition step, by;
determining a phonetic sequence having a plurality of segments for the speech input,recognizing words associated with a portion of the segments using a vocabulary,associating the remaining segments with pseudo-words wherein pseudo words are graphemes, andobtaining at least one hypothesis comprising recognized words and the pseudo-words not recognized as words within the vocabulary used to recognize words of the speech input; and
searching the database using the at least one hypothesis as a search query, and obtaining a list of search results from the database search.

Abstract
A system is provided for recognizing speech for searching a database. The system receives speech input as a spoken search request and then processes the speech input in a speech recognition step using a vocabulary for recognizing the spoken request. By processing the speech input words recognized in the speech input and included in the vocabulary are obtained to form at least one hypothesis. The hypothesis is then utilized to search a database using the at least one hypothesis as a search query. A search result is then received from the database and provided to the user.

21. A system for recognizing speech for searching a database, comprising:
-
a speech recognition unit detecting a search request of a user in form of a speech input, the speech recognition unit being formed so as to recognize the speech input by; determining a phonetic sequence having a plurality of segments for the speech input, recognizing words associated with a portion of the segments using a vocabulary, associating the remaining segments with pseudo-words wherein pseudo words are graphemes, and obtaining at least one hypothesis including recognized words and pseudo-words not recognized as words; a database; and a search unit searching the database using the at least one hypothesis as a search query, where a list of search results is obtained from the search. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23, 24, 25)
