Abstract

Methods, computer-readable media, and systems for interrupt handling in Java™ are provided. In some illustrative embodiments, a method for interrupt handling in Java software that executes on a processor comprising creating a Java representation of an interrupt vector table, instantiating a first Java object comprising a first Java method for handling an interrupt, inserting a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation of the interrupt vector table at a location corresponding to a level of the interrupt, and updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table corresponding to the level of the interrupt using the contents of the location in the Java representation.

Claims

1. A method for interrupt handling in Java software that executes on a processor, comprising:

creating a Java representation of an interrupt vector table;

instantiating a first Java object comprising a first Java method for handling an interrupt;

inserting a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation of the interrupt vector table at a location corresponding to a level of the interrupt; and

updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table corresponding to the level of the interrupt using the contents of the location in the Java representation.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table further comprises:

generating an instruction sequence to invoke the first Java method for handling the interrupt; and

inserting a reference to the instruction sequence at the location in the system level interrupt vector table.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving the interrupt;

selecting the location in the system level interrupt vector table; and

executing the instruction sequence wherein the first Java method for handling the interrupt is executed.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein creating a Java representation further comprises:

instantiating a second Java object using a Java class representing the system level interrupt vector table, wherein the Java class comprises a Java native method for updating the system level interrupt vector table; and

updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table further comprises executing the Java native method.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein

the Java class further comprises a second Java method for inserting the reference to the first Java object in the Java representation, and

inserting a reference further comprises executing the second Java method.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein

the first Java object further comprises a second Java method for inserting a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation, and

inserting a reference further comprises executing the second Java method.

7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a Java program that, when executed by a processor, performs a method for interrupt handling comprising:

creating a Java representation of an interrupt vector table;

instantiating a first Java object comprising a first Java method for handling an interrupt;

inserting a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation of the interrupt vector table at a location corresponding to a level of the interrupt; and

updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table corresponding to the level of the interrupt using the contents of the location in the Java representation.

8. The computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table further comprises:

generating an instruction sequence to invoke the first Java method for handling the interrupt; and

inserting a reference to the instruction sequence at the location in the system level interrupt vector table.

9. The computer-readable medium of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving the interrupt;

selecting the location in the system level interrupt vector table; and

executing the instruction sequence wherein the first Java method for handling the interrupt is executed.

10. The computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein creating a Java representation further comprises:

instantiating a second Java object using a Java class representing the system level interrupt vector table, wherein the Java class comprises a Java native method for updating the system level interrupt vector table; and

updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table further comprises executing the Java native method.

11. The computer-readable medium of claim 10, wherein

the Java class further comprises a second Java method for inserting the reference to the first Java object in the Java representation, and

inserting a reference further comprises executing the second Java method.

12. The computer-readable medium of claim 7, wherein

the first Java object further comprises a second Java method for inserting a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation, and

inserting a reference further comprises executing the second Java method.

13. A system, comprising:

a processor;

a Java virtual machine (“

JVM”

) configured to execute on the processor; and

a Java software program configured to execute on the JVM,

wherein the Java software program is configured

to create a Java representation of an interrupt vector table;

,

to instantiate a first Java object comprising a first Java method for handling an interrupt,

to insert a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation of the interrupt vector table at a location corresponding to a level of the interrupt, and

to update a location in the system level interrupt vector table corresponding to the level of the interrupt using the contents of the location in the Java representation.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the Java software program is further configured to update a location in the system level interrupt vector table by

generating an instruction sequence to invoke the first Java method for handling the interrupt, and

inserting a reference to the instruction sequence at the location in the system level interrupt vector table.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the Java software program is further configured to:

receive the interrupt;

select the location in the system level interrupt vector table; and

execute the instruction sequence wherein the first Java method for handling the interrupt is executed.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the Java software program is further configured to create a Java representation by

instantiating a second Java object using a Java class representing the system level interrupt vector table, wherein the Java class comprises a Java native method for updating the system level interrupt vector table, and

updating a location in the system level interrupt vector table further comprises executing the Java native method.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein

the Java class further comprises a second Java method for inserting the reference to the first Java object in the Java representation, and

the Java software program is further configured to insert a reference by executing the second Java method.

18. The system of claim 13, wherein

the first Java object further comprises a second Java method for inserting a reference to the first Java object in the Java representation, and

the Java software program is further configured to insert a reference by executing the second Java method.

19. The system of claim 13, wherein the system comprises a mobile device.
