1. An integrated diabetes management system, comprising:

  • a glucose sensor configured to provide sensor glucose data representative of sensed glucose;

    a delivery device configured to deliver medication in response to a delivery control signal;

    a communication module;

    a controller programmed to receive glucose data and to provide an output control signal as a function of the received glucose data; and

    a safety layer programmed to receive at least one of the sensor glucose data and the output control signal, and to modify at least one of the sensor glucose data and the output control signal;

    wherein the glucose data would be modified to become modified glucose datawherein the output control signal would be modified to become a modified output control signal that would be provided as the delivery control signal;

    wherein the controller comprises a controller calculation software module configured to provide the output control signal;

    wherein the communication module is configured to provide the delivery control signal to the delivery device; and

    wherein the safety layer is configured to intercept the output control signal and substitute the modified control signal to the communication module without any reconfiguration of the communication module or the controller calculation software module.
