1. An assembly for use on a tire having a tire wall, the assembly comprising:

  • a first elastomeric layer and a second elastomeric layer, wherein the first and second elastomeric layers comprise a butyl-containing compound or a natural rubber compound, and wherein the first and second elastomeric layers are configured with each elastomeric layer having a reduced step-off to define a tapered edge;

    an electronic device having a body being at least partially made of a plastic material, wherein the electronic device is positioned between the first and second elastomeric layers;

    an adhesive coating on the body of the electronic device that secures the body to the first and second elastomeric layers, the adhesive coating comprising an imide-based adhesive; and

    a tie-gumstrip layer on the first elastomeric layer on a side opposite the second elastomeric layer for securing the assembly to an innerliner of the tire.
