A method for treating a lesion of the skin in a patient, wherein said skin lesion is molluscum contagiosum, said method comprising topically administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a polyphenol composition comprising (i) a mixture of polyphenols and (ii) a carrier, wherein the composition comprises from about 5% (w/w) to about 20% (w/w) of the mixture of polyphenols, wherein the mixture of polyphenols contains epicatechol, epicatechol gallate, epigallocatechol, epigallocatechol gallate, and qallocatechol gallate.
