Abstract

Methods and systems for creating video from multiple sources utilize intelligence to designate the most relevant sources, facilitating their adjacent display and/or catenation of their video streams.

Claims

1. A video surveillance system comprising:

a user interface comprising;

a primary camera pane for displaying a primary video data feed captured by a primary video surveillance camera;

two or more camera panes in proximity to the primary camera pane, each proximate camera pane for displaying a secondary video data feed captured by one of a set of secondary video surveillance cameras, each secondary video surveillance camera having a different field of view; and

a camera selection module for determining the set of secondary video surveillance cameras for display in the proximate camera panes in response to an object of interest being tracked in the primary video data feed displayed in the primary camera pane and statistical relationships between the primary video surveillance camera and the set of secondary video surveillance cameras, the statistical relationships comprising probabilities of the tracked object transitioning from the primary video surveillance camera to each of the secondary video surveillance cameras.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the set of secondary video surveillance cameras is determined based on spatial relationships between the primary video surveillance camera and a plurality of video surveillance cameras.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the primary video data feed displayed in the primary camera pane is divided into two or more sub-regions.

4. The system of claim 3 wherein the set of secondary video surveillance cameras is determined based on a selection of one of the two or more sub-regions.

5. The system of claim 3 further comprising an input device for facilitating selection of a sub-region of the primary video data feed displayed in the primary camera pane.

6. The system of claim 1 further comprising an input device for facilitating the selection of the object of interest within the primary video data feed shown in the primary camera pane.

7. The system of claim 6 wherein the set of secondary video surveillance cameras is determined based on the selected object of interest within the primary video data feed shown in the primary camera pane.

8. The system of claim 6 wherein the set of secondary video surveillance cameras is determined based on motion of the selected object of interest within the primary video data feed shown in the primary camera pane.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein the set of secondary video surveillance cameras is determined based at least in part on a likelihood-of-transition metric.

10. The system of claim 6 wherein the set of secondary video surveillance cameras is determined based on an image quality of the selected object of interest within the video data shown in the primary camera pane.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein the camera selection module further determines the placement of the two or more proximate camera panes with respect to each other.

12. The system of claim 1 further comprising an input device for selecting one of the secondary video data feeds and thereby causing the camera selection module to designate the selected secondary video data feed as the primary video data feed and determining a second set of secondary video data feeds to be displayed in the proximate camera panes.

13. A user interface for presenting video surveillance data feeds comprising:

a primary video pane for presenting a primary video data feed from a primary video surveillance camera; and

a plurality of proximate video panes, each of the plurality of proximate video panes for presenting a second video data feed from one of a set of available secondary video data feeds, each from a respective secondary video surveillance camera having a different field of view, the presented secondary video data feeds being determined by an object of interest being tracked in the primary video data feed and statistical relationships between the primary video surveillance camera and the respective secondary video surveillance cameras, the statistical relationships comprising probabilities of the tracked object transitioning from the primary video surveillance camera to each of the respective secondary video surveillance cameras.

14. The user interface of claim 13 where the number of available secondary video data feeds is greater than the number of the proximate video panes.

15. The user interface of claim 13 wherein an assignment of video data feeds to the proximate video panes is based on a ranking of the video data feeds, the ranking based on the transition probabilities of the tracked object.
