1. A system, comprising:

  • one or more sensors mounted on a patient;

    a wireless transceiver to communicate with a remote station connected to a telephone communication network; and

    a processor coupled to the sensor and the wireless transceiver to request assistance if the processor detects a fall by the patient using body signature sequences and automatically requests assistance for the patient using a telephone, and wherein the processor also accepts a physical patient actuation with a button to request assistance, and wherein sequences of human motions are classified into groups of similar postures represented by model-states with a posture model depicting inter-relationships among model-states.
