1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

  • receiving, by a social networking system, location information of a first device associated with a first user of the social networking system, the location information representing a geographic location of the first user;

    receiving a request from the first user for other users of the social networking system in proximity to the first user;

    comparing the location information of the first device with location information of a second device associated with a second user of the social networking system; and

    providing an indication to the first user that the second user is in proximity to the first user based at least in part on the comparison of the location information of the first device with the location information of the second device.
