- a staple cartridge body;
a slot defined in said staple cartridge body, wherein said slot is configured to receive a cutting member, and wherein said slot defines a first side and a second side of said staple cartridge body;
a first cavity defined in said first side of said staple cartridge body, wherein said first cavity is configured to receive a first staple, wherein said first staple includes a first leg, and wherein said first leg comprises a first staple leg axis; and
a second cavity defined in said first side of said staple cartridge body, wherein said second cavity is configured to receive a second staple, wherein said second staple includes a second leg, and wherein said second leg comprises a second staple leg axis, wherein said first cavity and said second cavity each include a first end and a second end, wherein a first axis is defined between said first end and said second end of said first cavity, wherein a second axis is defined between said first end and said second end of said second cavity, and wherein said first axis is transverse to said second axis and wherein said first and second axes are transverse to said slot, and wherein said first staple leg axis is collinear with said second staple leg axis.

Abstract
A staple cartridge including first and second staple cavities therein where the first cavity can define a first axis and the second cavity can define a second axis. In various embodiments, the first axis can be transverse to the second axis. In one embodiment, the first and second cavities can extend in directions which are not parallel to each other. In various embodiments, staples deployed from such first and second staple cavities can produce a staple pattern which can better constrict blood vessels in soft tissue and reduce blood flow therethrough.

a staple cartridge body extending longitudinally along a longitudinal axis, comprising; a slot configured to receive a cutting member, wherein said slot defines a path for said cutting member; a plurality of first cavities, wherein each said first cavity defines a first axis oriented at a first angle with respect to said path, and wherein each said first cavity includes a first end; and a plurality of second cavities, wherein each said second cavity does not intersect any of said first cavities and defines a second axis oriented at a second angle with respect to said path, wherein said second angle is different than said first angle, and wherein each said second cavity includes a second end; a plurality of first staples, wherein each said first staple includes a first leg, and wherein each said first cavity is configured to receive a said first staple such that said first legs of said first staples are situated at said first ends of said first cavities to define a first staple leg axis; and a plurality of second staples, wherein each said second staple includes a second leg, and wherein each said second cavity is configured to receive a said second staple such that said second legs are situated at said second ends of said second cavities to define a second staple leg axis, wherein said first staple leg axis is collinear with said second staple leg axis. - View Dependent Claims (10)
