1. A method comprising:
- identifying a selection of a data stored in a mobile device, the data represented by a visual representation displayed at a location on a touch-sensitive display surface of the mobile device, by detecting contact on the touch-sensitive display surface at a contact position that corresponds to the location of the visual representation;
identifying a directional movement of the contact position on the touch-sensitive display surface;
determining if a receiving device is located in a general direction of the directional movement of the contact position relative to the mobile device; and
in response to the directional movement, causing a wireless transfer of the data represented by the visual representation to the receiving device if the receiving device is located in the general direction of the directional movement of the contact position relative to the mobile device and if the receiving device is within range of the mobile device, the range determined based on one or more characteristics of the directional movement and an orientation the mobile device.

For example, a method includes: identifying a selection of a representation of a digital object stored in a mobile device by detecting contact on a touch-sensitive surface of the mobile device at a contact position that corresponds to said representation; identifying a directional movement of said contact position on the touch-sensitive surface; and in response to said directional movement, wirelessly transferring data corresponding to the digital object to a nearby computing device.
