Abstract

A cleaning appliance includes separating apparatus for separating dirt from a dirt-bearing fluid flow, a chassis, and a duct mounted on the chassis for conveying the fluid flow to the separating apparatus, the duct including a support for supporting the separating apparatus.

Claims

1. A canister-type cleaning appliance comprising a cyclonic separating apparatus for separating dirt from a dirt-bearing fluid flow, a chassis, and an inlet duct mounted on the chassis for conveying the fluid flow to the cyclonic separating apparatus, the inlet duct having an inlet section for connecting to a wand and hose assembly, in use, the inlet duct comprising a support for supporting the cyclonic separating apparatus, wherein the inlet duct is movable relative to the chassis.

2. The cleaning appliance of claim 1, wherein the inlet duct is located beneath the separating apparatus.

3. The cleaning appliance of claim 1, wherein the cyclonic separating apparatus has a substantially cylindrical outer wall.

4. The cleaning appliance of claim 3, wherein the outer wall comprises a fluid inlet for receiving the fluid flow from the inlet duct.

5. The cleaning appliance of claim 3, wherein the support comprises a curved support surface for supporting the outer wall of the cyclonic separating apparatus.

6. The cleaning appliance of claim 1, wherein the inlet duct is pivotably moveable relative to the chassis.

7. The cleaning appliance of claim 1, wherein the inlet duct comprises a relatively flexible inlet section and a relatively rigid outlet section pivotably connected to a rolling assembly.

8. The cleaning appliance of claim 7, wherein the support is connected to the outlet section of the inlet duct.

9. The cleaning appliance of claim 7, wherein the support is biased away from the inlet section of the inlet duct.

10. The cleaning appliance of claim 7, wherein the inlet section comprises a flexible hose.

11. The cleaning appliance of claim 10, comprising a hose support for supporting the flexible hose, the hose support being pivotable relative to the rolling assembly.

12. The cleaning appliance of claim 11, wherein the hose support is pivotable about an axis spaced from the axis about which said relative pivotal movement is effected.

13. The cleaning appliance of claim 11, wherein the hose support is pivotable about an axis substantially parallel to the axis about which said relative pivotal movement is effected.

14. The cleaning appliance of claim 11, wherein the hose support is pivotable relative to the rolling assembly about an arc no greater than 180°

15. The cleaning appliance of claim 11, wherein the hose support comprises a floor engaging rolling element.

16. The cleaning appliance of claim 15, wherein the hose is constrained to move within a plane substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of the rolling element.

17. The cleaning appliance of claim 10, wherein the hose is connected to a coupling for connecting the inlet duct to a wand and hose assembly.

18. The cleaning appliance of claim 1, wherein the support comprises a spigot locatable within a recess located on a base of the cyclonic separating apparatus.

19. A cleaning appliance comprising a separating apparatus for separating dirt from a dirt-bearing fluid flow, a chassis, and a duct mounted on the chassis for conveying the fluid flow to the separating apparatus, the duct comprising a support for supporting the separating apparatus comprising a spigot locatable within a recess located on a base of the separating apparatus, wherein the duct comprises a relatively flexible inlet section and a relatively rigid outlet section pivotably connected to a rolling assembly.

20. The cleaning appliance of claim 19, wherein the support is connected to the outlet section of the duct.

21. The cleaning appliance of claim 19, wherein the support is biased away from the inlet section of the duct.

22. The cleaning appliance of claim 19, wherein the inlet section comprises a flexible hose.
