Abstract

A door assembly includes a first door skin and a second door skin spaced apart from the first door skin. The assembly also includes an energy sensor generating an energy signature signal and a memory storing a door component operating signature. A controller is coupled to the accelerometer and forms a comparison of the energy signature signal to the door component operating signature and generates a door component operation status signal in response to the comparison.

Claims

1. A door assembly comprising:

a first door skin;

a second door skin spaced apart from the first door skin;

an energy sensor generating an energy signature signal;

a memory storing a door component operating signature;

a controller coupled to the energy sensor and forms a comparison of the energy signature signal to the door component operating signature and generates a door component operation status signal in response to the comparison,

wherein the energy sensor comprises an accelerometer,

the energy sensor and the memory are disposed on a first door between the first door skin and the second door skin; and

wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an operating condition of a door adjacent to the first door.

2. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the energy sensor comprises a multi-axis accelerometer.

3. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the controller is disposed between the first door skin and the second door skin.

4. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an improperly adjusted operator assembly.

5. A door assembly as recited in claim 4 where the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a high swing speed.

6. A door assembly as recited in claim 4 wherein the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a low swing speed.

7. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a door position.

8. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a latch status.

9. A door assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein the latch status comprises a latch stop not aligned with the door adjacent to the first door.

10. A door assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein the latch status comprises a latch not securely latching.

11. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a hinge status.

12. A door assembly as recited in claim 11 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge squeaking.

13. A door assembly as recited in claim 11 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge binding.

14. A door assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an abuse of the door adjacent to the first door.

19. A system comprising:

a door assembly as recited in claim 1;

a central controller in communication with the controller.

20. A system as recited in claim 19 wherein the central controller generates a graphical user interface.

21. A system as recited in claim 20 wherein the graphical user interface comprises a compliance indicator.

22. A system as recited in claim 20 wherein the graphical user interface comprises a door status indicator.

23. A system as recited in claim 20 further comprising a manufacturer controller in communication with the central controller.

46. A system comprising:

a door assembly as recited in claim 1;

a manufacturer controller in communication with the controller.

47. A system comprising:

a door assembly as recited in claim 1;

a manufacturer controller in communication with the controller.

15. A door assembly comprising:

a first door skin;

a second door skin spaced apart from the first door skin;

an energy sensor generating an energy signature signal;

a memory storing a door component operating signature;

a controller coupled to the energy sensor and forms a comparison of the energy signature signal to the door component operating signature and generates a door component operation status signal in response to the comparison,

the energy sensor and the memory are disposed on a first door;

wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an operating condition of a door adjacent to the first door; and

wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to a door clearance.

16. A door assembly as recited in claim 15 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to-frame clearance.

17. A door assembly as recited in claim 15 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to ground clearance.

18. A door assembly as recited in claim 15, wherein the energy sensor comprises an accelerometer, and

the energy sensor and the memory are disposed on the first door between the first door skin and the second door skin.

24. A method comprising:

generating an energy signature signal during door operation;

comparing the energy signature signal to a door component operating signature; and

generating a door component operation status signal in response to the comparing,

wherein the energy signature signal is generated from an accelerometer,

the accelerometer is disposed on a first door between a first door skin, and a second door skin spaced apart from the first door skin,

a memory storing a door component operating signature is disposed on the first door between the first door skin and the second door skin; and

wherein the door component operation status signal corresponds to an operating condition of a door adjacent to the first door.

25. A method as recited in claim 24 further comprising generating a sensor signal and filtering the sensor signal to form the energy signature signal.

26. A method as recited in claim 24 wherein comparing comprises comparing the energy signal to a plurality of door component operating signature patterns.

27. A method as recited in claim 24 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to an improperly adjusted door operator assembly.

28. A method as recited in claim 27 wherein the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a high swing speed.

29. A method as recited in claim 27 wherein the improperly adjusted door operator assembly comprises a low swing speed.

30. A method as recited in claim 27 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a door position.

31. A method as recited in claim 27 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a latch status.

32. A method as recited in claim 31 wherein the latch status comprises a latch stop not aligned with the door adjacent to the first door.

33. A method as recited in claim 31 wherein the latch status comprises a latch not securely latching.

34. A method as recited in claim 27 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a hinge status.

35. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge squeaking.

36. A method as recited in claim 34 wherein the hinge status comprises a hinge binding.

37. A method as recited in claim 27 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to a door clearance.

38. A method as recited in claim 37 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to-frame clearance.

39. A method as recited in claim 37 wherein the door clearance comprises a door-to ground clearance.

40. A method as recited in claim 37 further comprising communicating the door operation status signal to a central controller.

41. A method as recited in claim 40 further comprising generating a compliance indication within a graphical user interface based on the door component operation status signal.

42. A method as recited in claim 40 further comprising generating a maintenance indication within a graphical user interface.

43. A method as recited in claim 24 further comprising communicating the door operation status signal to a central controller.

44. A method as recited in claim 24 wherein generating a door component operation status signal comprises generating the door component operation status signal corresponding to an improperly installed door operator assembly.

45. A method as recited in claim 24 further comprising communicating the door operation status signal to a manufacturer controller.
