1. An advanced driver assistance system for a vehicle, the advanced driver assistance system comprising:

  • a first sensor arrangement for measuring a distance of a first foreign object from the vehicle, wherein the first sensor arrangement is arranged on a first longitudinal side of the vehicle;

    a second sensor arrangement for measuring a distance of a second foreign object from the vehicle, wherein the second sensor arrangement is arranged on a second longitudinal side of the vehicle that is different from the first longitudinal side of the vehicle; and

    an electronic control unit for activating vehicle-internal actuators as a function of information obtained from a signal of the first sensor arrangement, wherein;

    the first sensor arrangement comprises at least one sensor which measures the distance of the first foreign object from the first longitudinal side,the control unit comprises a program module which emits a warning message to a driver of the vehicle during a forward drive by a connection to at least one of the actuators when the measured distance of the first foreign object from the first longitudinal side is smaller than a first predefined safety distance, andthe control unit applies a countersteering torque at a steering wheel of the vehicle as the warning message and to enlarge the distance from the first foreign object with respect to the first longitudinal side of the vehicle only if the countersteering torque does not cause the distance from the second foreign object with respect to the second longitudinal side of the vehicle to become smaller than the first predefined safety distance.
