1. A method, comprising:

  • programming a processor of an in vivo glucose monitoring system to;

    monitor a signal received from a glucose sensor positioned in fluid contact with interstitial fluid to determine if a level of the signal is below a predetermined threshold during a predefined period of time following sensor positioning;

    detect an attenuation in the signal when it is determined that the level of the signal is below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning;

    categorize the detected attenuation in the signal based, at least in part, on one or more characteristics of the signal; and

    report information related to the signal when the level of the signal is not determined to be below the predetermined threshold during the predefined period of time following sensor positioning;

    wherein the detected attenuation in the signal is associated with an early signal attenuation condition.
