1. A method for enhancing regeneration of lens cells in a mammal, the method comprising the steps of:

  • providing a composition comprising a hyaluronic acid compound wherein said hyaluronic acid is a crossed-linked hyaluronic acid selected from the group consisting of a cross-linked form of a stabilized hyaluronic acid and a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid; and

    filling a lens capsule bag of said mammal with said composition, wherein said hyaluronic acid compound is formulated to biodegrade or dissolve at least 2 weeks after being filled into said lens capsule bag and further wherein the hyaluronic acid provides an internal scaffold for the proliferation and differentiation of regenerating lens fiber to improve the configuration, shape and structure of regenerated lenses.
