1. A programmable remote keyless vehicle entry device comprising:

  • a wireless signal generator; and

    memory containing;

    programming code configured to place an access system of a vehicle in a programming mode enabling registration of the entry device with the access system; and

    control codes configured to cause the access system operate access system features in response to entry device operation with the entry device registered with the access system;

    wherein the entry device is configured to;

    transmit the programming code to the access system via a physical connection between the entry device and the vehicle while the entry device is unregistered with the access system, thereby placing the access system in a programming mode to register the entry device with the access system to enable subsequent response by the access system to the control codes; and

    wirelessly operate the access system features of the vehicle, using the control codes, after the access system exits the programming mode and the entry device is physically disconnected from the access system.
