1. A display, comprising a multiplicity of light-emitting devices, each light-emitting device comprising:

  • at least one single-die semiconductor light-emitting diode (LED) coupleable with a power supply to emit blue light, and a down-converting luminophoric medium arranged for exposure to said blue light, and which in exposure to said blue light responsively emits a longer wavelength, polychromatic radiation, so that each light-emitting device produces a white light output, wherein said white light output comprises blue light from said blue light emitted by the LED and said longer wavelength, polychromatic radiation emitted by the down-converting luminophoric medium, and wherein the down-converting luminophoric medium comprises an inorganic luminophor.
