1. A microcapsule-based pigment comprising microcapsules having a mean by volume particle size diameter of less than 1 micron, the microcapsules having a wall made of a cured amine formaldehyde resin with the wall encapsulating an internal phase including a thermochromic system;

  • the microcapsule-based pigment being in a reacted form produced from a water-based slurry utilizing(1) an aqueous phase solution constituting from 40% to 70% of the slurry by weight, wherein from 1% to 10% of the aqueous phase solution is an anionic surfactant material;

    (2) an internal phase mixture constituting from 23% to 35% of the slurry by weight, wherein from 1% to 10% by weight of the internal phase is a leuco dye and from 5% to 30% is a developer for the leuco dye; and

    (3) an amine formaldehyde resin solution constituting from 15% to 28% of the slurry by weight of which from 40% to 60% is the amine formaldehyde resin itself;

    the anionic surfactant as an emulsifier being present in an effective amount to achieve the mean by volume particle size diameter of less than one micron in a water-based emulsion, and a chemical dewatering agent in an effective amount to facilitate dewatering of the microcapsules with the anionic surfactant in place;

    a microencapsulated pigment being in a dewatered state of reduced moisture made ready for industrial use facilitated by addition of the chemical dewatering agent the anionic surfactant and the chemical dewatering agent being present in the pigment.
