1. A discovery control system configured to be implemented in a first device, wherein the first device is configured to operate in a wireless network, the discovery control system comprising:

  • a mode selection module configured to select a mode of operation for the first device, wherein the mode of operation includes (i) a listen mode, (ii) a search mode or (iii) a multi-mode, andwherein the first device, while operating in the multi-mode, operates in both the listen mode and the search mode during a same period of time; and

a discovery control module comprisinga probe request module configured to, while the first device is operating in the search mode, (i) transmit, from the first device, a first probe request signal to discover a second device in the wireless network, and (ii) receive, responsive to the first probe request signal transmitted from the first device, a first probe response signal transmitted by the second device, anda probe response module configured to, while the first device is operating in the multi-mode and is in asynchronous communication with the second device, (i) receive a second probe request signal, transmitted from the second device on a first channel, to discover the first device, and (ii) transmit a second probe response signal from the first device on a second channel, wherein the second probe response signal transmitted from the first device is responsive to the second probe request signal transmitted from the second device.
