1. A protective cover arranged to protect a tablet device having a housing with a front opening, a processor, a display coupled to the processor and disposed within the front opening, a tablet device battery coupled to an inductive power receiver unit, and a protective layer disposed within the front opening and overlaying the display, comprising:
- a body portion having a size and shape in accordance with the protective layer, comprising;
an inductive power transmitter arranged to pass power through the protective layer to the tablet device by inductive coupling;
a magnetic element used to secure the body portion to the protective layer in a closed configuration, wherein in the closed configuration the magnetic element is detected by a sensor disposed within the tablet device that enables the protective cover to use the inductive power transmitter to pass the power through the protective layer to the inductive power receiver unit in accordance with a current battery state of the tablet device battery when the tablet device is operating in a portable mode; and
an attachment mechanism for pivotally attaching the body portion to the tablet device.

9. A method operable by a tablet device having a display coupled to a processor, a sensor, a battery, a protective layer having a size and a shape of a front side of the tablet device and overlaying the display, and an inductive power receiver beneath the outer protective layer, comprising:
- during a portable mode of tablet device operation;
detecting by the sensor if a body portion of a protective cover attached to the tablet device is magnetically secured to the outer protective layer by a magnetic element disposed within the body portion, the body portion further comprising an inductive power transmitter configured to inductively couple with the inductive power receiver; enabling the inductive power receiver to receive power from the inductive power transmitter when the body portion is detected by the sensor; and receiving an operable amount of power from the inductive power transmitter by the inductive power receiver through the outer protective layer in accordance with a current battery state. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13)
