1. A protective cover arranged to protect a tablet device having a housing with a front opening, a processor, a display coupled to the processor and disposed within the front opening, a tablet device battery coupled to an inductive power receiver unit, and a protective layer disposed within the front opening and overlaying the display, comprising:

  • a body portion having a size and shape in accordance with the protective layer, comprising;

    an inductive power transmitter arranged to pass power through the protective layer to the tablet device by inductive coupling;

    a magnetic element used to secure the body portion to the protective layer in a closed configuration, wherein in the closed configuration the magnetic element is detected by a sensor disposed within the tablet device that enables the protective cover to use the inductive power transmitter to pass the power through the protective layer to the inductive power receiver unit in accordance with a current battery state of the tablet device battery when the tablet device is operating in a portable mode; and

    an attachment mechanism for pivotally attaching the body portion to the tablet device.
